Residents and employees at Berwick Estates had their own reasons for getting the COVID-19 vaccine, but everyone was united about this – the vaccine meant a return to what was missed about their lives before the pandemic. Berwick Estates inoculated most of their residents and employees against the coronavirus at a clinic held in mid-January and celebrated the day for good reason. Many residents have been isolated from their family, friends, and the greater community and are ready for in-person family visits, hugs and handshakes, and simply being around others who don’t live or work at the facility. Days of preparation, including resident and employee education initiatives, were key to the success of the vaccination clinic. On the designated day, three pharmacists from Guardian Pharmacy administered the vaccines while a New Communities’ RN observed for any negative side effects. Happily, none were reported and the clinic was followed up with a “Hello Vaccine, Bye Bye COVID” cake and a few fun games to commemorate the event.
